Glass Sword

Glass Sword (Red Queen, #2)Glass Sword by Victoria Aveyard

My rating: 4 of 5 stars

This is the second book in the series and is the follow up to Red Queen.
Mare Burrow is no longer hiding herself in a palace, pretending to be a Silver, but she is now on the run from the newly proclaimed king Maven, who is intent on capturing and destroying her. Mare learns the truth that she is not the only one of her kind to be a Red with Silver abilities, and begins a search for find them in the hopes of turning them into warriors who will help Mare overturn Maven.
The story is fairly fast paced but there is considerable time spent on exploring Mare’s dark thoughts and her manner of thinking people were ‘expendable’ in the name of her cause. There is a kind of romance in the storyline, but it doesn’t become a major plot point, rather it is woven into the storyline smoothly and simply.
This story is Young Adult fantasy, following a formula, but formulas work for a reason and this story is quite enjoyable. It ends on a plot twist that pretty much guarantees that you want to read the next instalment, Kings Cage, which is released February 7th, 2017.
